Her page at the Internet Speculative Roberta Gellis has been one of the most successful writers of historical gelis of the last few decades, having published about 25 meticulously researched historical novels since Lists with This Book. We spend too much time inside Joanna’s head with her ruminations.

Aug 14, Susan Laine marked it as to-read Shelves: She is the heiress of Roselynde and was raised accordingly to her rank. Their tenacity, loyalty, and unfailing efforts to make a safe and better life for all make Joanna compelling.
Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediatelyespecially if potentially libelous or harmful. I like the historical aspect of the book, but I’m not sure the story served any real purpose except to set up the next book in the series.

As Joanna and Geoffrey are called to court, they are caught up in the prevalent intrigues and corruption of John’s court. They have many ups and downs and misunderstandings and separations as John battles the Welsh, infuriates his barons into rebellion, his attempts to recapture Normandy to the signing of the Magna Carta.
